On January 27, 2014, Miles Young, President, Friends of Hermione-LaFayette in America, addressed luncheon guests at the Philadelphia Club hosted by Bob DeMento, Chairman, Library Company of Philadelphia, about the L’Hermione’s first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean and upcoming visit to Philadelphia in May 2015.
The visit of L’Hermione to Philadelphia has a very particular historical significance. It was there in May of 1781, that the original L’Hermione was anchored, and during its stay entertained on board the entire Continental Congress, based in Philadelphia.
It was a remarkable celebration of the American – French friendship, which helped secure the independence of the United States.
Mr. Young’s talk is the first of many presentations the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette is currently organizing with cultural, historic, educational, civic, business and academic groups and institutions up and down the East Coast in the venue cities where L’Hermione will be making ports of call in the summer of 2015.
