The Ambassador of France to the United States, His Excellency Gérard Araud held a reception for the Hermione at his residence in Washington, D.C. on the evening of March 23rd, 2015. The residence has just been reopened after years of restoration, and this was one of the first public events to be held since then. By great coincidence, the Ambassador of the United States in France, the Honorable Jane D. Hartley was able to attend, along with a delegation of French entrepreneurs who were visiting Washington, D.C.
President of the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, Inc., Miles Young, accompanied by Jim Dillard, Philip Niedermair, B.J. Gerber, Chairs of the respective Virginia, Maryland and Washington D.C. committees of the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, Inc., together with Robert Lear, member of the executive committee of the Friends of Hermione-Lafayette in America, Inc., also attended, together with a large turnout of Washington’s A-list diplomats, distinguished guests and other dignitaries.
The French Ambassador spoke warmly of the Hermione project, and of its importance in French-American relations. Ambassador Hartley spoke of her recent visit to the Hermione in La Rochelle, and how impressed she was. The visiting team from the French organization in Rochefort, Association Hermione La Fayette, Isabelle Georget and Bruno Gravellier were also present.
